Connective Tissue Diseases

autoimmune diseases connective tissue are a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by abnormal structure or function one or more of the elements of connective tissue, namely collagen, elastin or mucopolysaccharides.
In general, this group includes the following diseases:
  • SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus)
  • Scleroderma Dermatomyositis / Polymyositis Sjogren's Syndrome
  • mixed connective tissue disease
The detection of specific autoantibodies, the so-called antinuclear antibodies (ANA), may support the diagnosis of autoimmune connective tissue and help differentiate the diagnosis as well as to determine the prognosis.
